My Kind of Thanksgiving!

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, & creates a vision for tomorrow. - Melody Beattie

Growing up back home in the Island, we never celebrate Thanksgiving, maybe because this holiday is primarily being celebrated here in the USA and Canada.  However, we are always thankful everyday for the chance to celebrate life.  It’s a new holiday for me when I got here. Dinner table is being filled with pies and stuffing and of course the famous Turkey!  Now that I am married, the perfect way for me to spend Thanksgiving is with my loving husband. I may be far from my family back home but they are still part of those blessings that I am grateful for.

I am curious how it started, and then here comes Mr. Google! To borrow Mr. Google’s word In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.” Thank you Mr. Google! (^-^)

Yes, Thanksgiving Day is proclaimed to be a national holiday celebrated primarily in the USA and Canada. (Kaya pala wala kaming celebration na ito back home) but today several other places around the world observe similar celebrations and including my country Philippines. In my opinion, it’s nice way to somehow give also a special day to just contemplate and meditate and being grateful for everyday that God gave us.

I believe strongly in building and keeping traditions, and this is one of my husband’s special holidays, so I want to celebrate it in our own special way without forgetting the substance. My day starts with a grateful prayer, then OT at work, after that I prepare his requested Split Pea Soup. Even though it’s not really part of a Thanksgiving favorites, but since my hubby wanted to have one, I cook it with all my heart. Below are photos of my homemade Split Pea Soup and Thanksgiving foodies! :p

His Favorite Split Pea Soup!
And...the Pumpkin Pie!
My classic mashed potato and beef steak!
Appetizer! Deviled Egg!
And of course, the drinks!

I have so much to be thankful for and I gave all the glory to God for blessing me with what I have right now. My friends and family back home, my friends her in the US. To my man, who loves me unconditionally, I love you with every ounce of my being baby kokoLeo!

You might be wondering if where's the Turkey?  Since my husband and I doesn't eat turkey, i opted not to have it and not even a roasted chicken! And this what I called My Kind of Thanksgiving!

Thank you for reading! Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble, Gobble!
